9 5 1994
1891 '04F 1991
STILLWATER cAREA
Seining the Sr. Croix Vallee Area.
February 14, 1994
The Honorable Wyn John
Mayor of Lake Elmo, City Hall
3800 Laverne Avenue North
Lake Elmo, -MN 5504,7
Dear Mayor John:
It is that time of year when just about everyone is wondering what
the Minnesota Legislature is going to do to fix the problems
associated with our state's property tax system.
We at the Stillwater Area Chamber of Commerce belong to a coalition
of 30 other metro area Chambers committed to seeing a total reform
of the state's property tax system. We are committed to this
objective because the Minnesota ranks No. 2 nationally in
Commercial/Industrial property tax rates and we are in danger of
becoming No. 1!
We also think if property taxes were easier to understand, more
people would be inclined to offer their help to local elected
officials during the budget process. In other words, we think it
is in everyone's interest -- those who pay property taxes and those
who decide how to spend it -- to meet and discuss what is wrong
with the system and how to fix it.
Therefore, please join us at the Washington County Government
Center from 8:00 to 10:00 am on Friday, February 25, 1994, to deal
with this important issue. We have included an agenda for the
meeting. As you can see, this is an ambitious undertaking. But in
order to see real property tax reform in 1994, we need to begin
with a candid discussion about what's wrong with the system and
what's the right way to proceed. We hope you will find the time to
attend, listen, comment and help us find a solution.
Please extend this invitation to your Council/Board and RSVP to the
Chamber office by February 21st, the number attending. Phone 439-
7700 or FAX 439-4544.
Si cerely,
Christine L. White
Executive Vice President
Enclosures
CLW/a
Brick Alley Building o 423 So.
