{•
{ , , Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Landfill Cleanup" Program
and gas -extraction system in
August or September of this year.
Construction is expected to be
completed by the summer of
1996. Residents can expect to see
earth moving and excavation
equipment and a drill rig at the
site during this time period. The
MPCA does not anticipate that
garbage odor will be a problem:
How long will It take for all the gas to leave the
landfill? -
Landfills continue to produce
landfill. gas for many years after
they close. ,The length of time
landfill gas is produced depends
on the type of waste and amount
of moisture, among other factors,
in the landfill. The MPCA
anticipates the system will
operate for at:least 10 years. The
j need for continuing the system
will be evaluated on an ongoing
basis.
For more information about the
Washington County Landfill or
the Landfill Cleanup Program,
please call Dave Erickson, MPCA
Public Informationn Office at (612)
296-6605 or call toll free 1-800-
657-3864 (voice/TTY)
March 1995 Page three
