Mayor's Report June 2,1998
1. Yesterday the City Administrator and I attended the Lake Elmo Business
Association lunch. We listened to Kurt Geissler Chief Operating Officer of
Lakeview Hospital describing the new medical facility being built in our
Business Park Zone. This Building, called High Point Medical, is a 100%
leased facility with medical offices on the first and third floors, and a Same
Day Surgery Center on the second floor. Among the specialties to be covered
were Dental, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, GERD, Urology, Orthopedics
(2), Radiography, Physical Therapy, Orthotics, a hand surgeon as well as an
Optical shop and Pharmacy.
The same day surgery center is half owned by Lakeview and half by the
surgeons using the center. Initially it will have three operating rooms, and a
special procedures room. It will expand to three and ultimately six operating
rooms. There will be no overnight patients, all will be ambulatory low risk.
The developers plan to add another similar office/surgery building. This will
have beds for 24 hour observation cases, but no emergency capability. Because
of a moratorium on creating additional bed capacity in the area, there is no
prospect of the facility becoming a hospital at this stage.
