To the mayor and city council membeof Lake Elmo —
I would like to address the issue of the PF zoning ordinance currently under your
consideration.
As a resident of Lake Elmo I am interested in the preservation of the general character of
this unique area. I am also interested in seeing that adequate accommodation is made for
places of worship to serve my community.
I have attended some of the planning committee meetings and my impression is that they
have drafted an unnecessarily restrictive ordinance.
I have heard the arguments about how the light and traffic generated by churches and their
patrons is disruptive to a neighborhood and necessitates huge buffer zones. I have also
heard some rationale about harm to the environment. These arguments sound ingenuine and
misdirected. I cannot think of a better neighbor than a church.
I have also looked at some of the sites that will be affected by this ordinance and cannot see
how those aforementioned arguments would be relevant to those properties.
I am of the opinion that some reasonable compromises could easily be made that have not
been seriously considered.
Please find some position that is more helpful and welcoming to those who wish to serve
the people of Lake Elmo.
Sin erely
Nate Sabin
8080 59th St.
Lake Elmo
651-773-9498
