LAUDERDALE COUNCIL
ACTION FORM
Action Requested
•
Public Hearing
Discussion x
• _x
Resolution
• Session
Meeting Date . May 27, 2014
STAFF INITIAL
As I am sure you have noticed, some business have not been removing graffiti from their
properties. Conversations with them have been fairly fruitless. City ordinance does not re-
quire that graffiti be removed, however. Staff recommends changing that and has prepared
language to require the prompt removal of graffiti.
In preparing the revisions, staff also cleaned up language that the police officers and city
attorney felt didn't clearly prohibit one party from placing snow on their neighbor's proper-
ty. Additionally, staff recommend going back to the standard of giving property owners 24
hours to remove snow from in front of their properties. After big snow events, it can be dif-
ficult to accomplish in 12 hours. No one was ever issued a citation after 12 hours but 24
hours seems fair.
The ordinance can always be amended prior to adoption. Prior to adoption, a public hearing
also must be held.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Motion to approve Ordinance 14-03, amending Lauderdale City Code regarding Health and
Safety; Nuisances.
