Emergency escape openings must provide a minimum net clear opening size that complies with the MSBC. Subd. 45. Section 704.2 Smoke alarms. Single or multiple-station smoke alarms shall be installed and maintained in Groups R-2, R-3, R-4 at all of the following locations: a. On the ceiling or wall outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of bedrooms. b. In each room used for sleeping purposes. c. In each story within a dwelling unit, including basements and cellars but not including crawl spaces and uninhabitable attics. Exception: Dwelling units in existence at the adoption of this code shall meet smoke alarm location requirement b prior to January 1, 2006. Subd. 46. Section 800 General references. Whenever this code refers to the International Codes, such references shall be deemed to be to the comparable applicable code as adopted by the state.
