• Considerable knowledge of the principals and practices of supervision, including the ability to <br />supervise a group of eight up to 20 maintenance workers. <br />• Considerable knowledge of, and the ability to enforce, standard safety practices and <br />procedures commonly associated with operation, maintenance, and repair activities for public <br />works infrastructure, facilities, vehicles, and equipment. <br />• Skill and knowledge in the operation and care of tools, vehicles, light/heavy equipment, and <br />building systems. <br />• Ability to monitor, track, and control expenditures against budgetary constraints. <br />• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate a number of simultaneous, on-going maintenance <br />projects requiring a variable amount of resources and personnel time. <br />• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to deal tactfully, <br />confidently, and effectively with all City personnel, outside agencies, vendors, and the <br />general public, both in person and over the telephone. <br />• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, maps, O&M manuals, and <br />other technical documents. <br />• Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing. <br />• Proven skill and knowledge in using computers to maintain records and electronic files; <br />prepare letters, memos, and reports; correspond via a-mail; and research using the Internet. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />• Possess a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license and the ability to obtain a CDL Class B <br />license within one year of hire. <br />• Possess a Water Supply System Operator Class D certificate or the ability to obtain within 18 <br />months of hir , <br />vc~rc+ of hiro <br />ti. <br />• Possess a Wastewater Operator Class S-D certificate or the ability to obtain within 18 months <br />of hire. <br />TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED <br />Personal computers and software programs, including MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, <br />Access) and Internet Explorer. <br />• SCADA system, motor vehicles, phone, fax, and copy machine. <br />• On occasion, light and heavy equipment. <br />WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS <br />The work environment and physical demands described herein are representative of those that <br />must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. <br />Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the <br />essential functions. <br />Work for this job is located in both indoor and outdoor environments. The indoor work <br />environment is typically in a HVAC-conditioned office setting with moderate noise levels, but can <br />vary while supervising personnel in an unconditioned garage-type setting with occasional loud <br />noise levels. Job duties also require exposure to outdoor conditions year-round, including <br />adverse weather conditions and outdoor areas under heavy/highway, utility, or facility <br />construction.
