Resolution 6998, Resolution of Support for Sale of Fire Station 3, Located at
1314 109t" Avenue NE in Blaine
Fire Chief Zikmund appeared before Council and asked for authorization to sell Old Fire Station
3 noting the appraisal price was $162,000 and there is a purchase agreement of $184,000 with
the Church and this would allow the City of Blaine to move forward with this purchase. He then
explained that Blaine will remove the building from the site, restore the site, and restore the curb
line. He further explained that the management team envisioned and recommended that the
proceeds of the sale would be used to finish the new station but it looks like that project will be
at or under budget so Staff recommends the proceeds be placed in the Capital Improvement
Fund.
Chief Zikmund noted this would also establish the sale price of Fire Station 5 that Blaine wants
to retain and the City will receive its prorated share of the proceeds for that sale.
Council Member Flaherty asked when payments for capital budgets are made.
Finance Director Beer indicated that they are generally made January 1 but a vehicle is ordered
and payment is not due until later this year so the payment has not yet been made.
Council Member Flaherty asked if the City's share of the sale proceeds is something that interest
• could be made on rather than having it go right to capital budgets.
Finance Director Beer indicated that the money will be invested for future capital improvements.
Mayor Marty asked about the junk yard fire asking if it was reimbursable from insurance.
Fire Chief Zikmund indicated that there were issues with the owner and he did not have
insurance but usually the property owner would be billed.
Council Member Mueller asked whether buildings are burned for practice.
Fire Chief Zikmund indicated that is done when conditions allow it.
MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Hull.
