To Approve Resolution 7041, Approving Purchase of a
Replacement White Marked Squad Car as amended to a Black and White Squad Car.
Council Member Mueller said that she took an unofficial poll and spoke with three officers and
she wanted to know if they felt it was important for safety purposes to have black and white cars.
All three officers said they thought it would be nice and that it is trendy now but they have such
nice lighting systems in the cars now so that visibility in a white car is not a safety issue. She
further said that there are other uses for forfeiture funds that could better benefit the City.
Council Member Stigney said that this was discussed at the work session and a national
ophthalmologist said this would be a step backward because they are not more visible. He then
said that he has seen nothing to change his mind that this is necessary. •
