32 <br />officers; good character; tact; ability to treat the public with courtesy and <br />when the occassion demands, with firmness; skill in planning and checking on <br />work; ability to delegate details to others and to supervise and control their <br />activities; ability to maintain cooperative arrangements with the heads of the <br />other divisions; ability to issue intelligible directions and orders and secure <br />their execution; ability to apply good judgement and practical sense to the <br />work of his division. <br />POLICE SERGEANT <br />STATER• NT OF DUTIES: Under the direction of the Police Chief, Captain or <br />Lieutenant to supervise the work of Patrolman and be responsible for police work <br />during an assigned period; to do detective work as assigned; to handle complaints <br />and calls; <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK: <br />1. See that P atrolmen are on duty and properly equipped; <br />2. Receive complaints from citizens of crimes committed or of lost or <br />stolen property or of other matters requiring the attention of the <br />police; <br />3. To dispatch cars and patrolmen to the scene of crime, accident, or <br />unusual occurence reported; <br />4. Receive and transmit messages from and to supervisory officers and <br />Patrolmen; <br />5. Assist in the maintenance of the police record system; <br />6. Assist Patrolmen whenever in need of help; <br />7. Answer adequately all questions of Patrolmen concerning police <br />performance and records; <br />S. Observe the minor faults of Patrolmen on duty and correct them by <br />proper instruction; <br />9. Give evidence in Court; <br />10.
