Gibson at 8:20 P.M. on November 3, 1959 at the Village Hall, <br />1450 West Highway 96. <br />014 '1 The following members were present: <br />Motion by Hodges, seconded by Gibson to appoint <br />go the Police Department to serve a probation period <br />effective November lst, 1959 at the salary of $50.00 <br />Smith, seconded by Gibson to raise the salary of the <br />$75.00 per month. Motion and amended motion carried <br />James W. Gibson <br />Earl E. Smith <br />clelford C. Christensen <br />Donald Hodges <br />Perry Malvin <br />Betty Walbridge <br />Richard Meyers <br />C. V. Comstock <br />Irene Edberg <br />CAL tr+n <br />Clerk Smith read the minutes of the October 20th meeting. Motion by <br />Christensen, seconded by Malvin to approve the minutes as read. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Mr. Dale Pierce as patrolman <br />of 60 days, said appointment <br />per month. Motion amended by <br />newly appointed patrolman to <br />unanimously. <br />Police Chief Robertus submitted two letters to the council which were read <br />by Mayor Gibson. The first letter was directed to the members of the Police force <br />by Chief Robertus cautioning them to remain impartial and unbiased during the forth <br />coating election in December. The second letter was directed to motorists throughout <br />the 7...4l age concerning children playing in the streets or walking on the side roads <br />who would be unaware of the presence of oars due to winter clothing shutting out the <br />sound of vehicles. The last letter to appear in both the Crier and the Bulletin <br />newapapers which will receive substantial circulation throughout the village. Mayor <br />Gibson read the police report for the month of October. <br />Mrs. Alice Frits, recreation chairman,appeared before the council and stated <br />that the had received estimates from the Garjac Construction Company for warming <br />houses which the Recreation Committee recommended placing on two skating rinks. Said <br />;sting houses would be approximately 15a20 foot in area, would have double doors, <br />planked flooring, a railing outside for the entrance into such warming house, and <br />a gas stove with some type of enclosure sur undiuo it and the price would be <br />approximately $800.00. Motion by Smith, eeoonded by Hodges that the village purchase <br />two warming houses and place them at the sites recommended by the Recreation Committee <br />designated as Hillview playground and Oakwood playground. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mrs. Florence Peterson, of the Recreation Committee, appeared before the council <br />and stated that the committee had received a request for a skating rink on the <br />Greenfield playground. Mr. Simonson, 5909 Greenfield Avenue, also appeared before <br />the council to state his sentiments in regards to this matter. The Recreation <br />Committee recommended that no money be spent for a rink i the aforementioned area <br />this year as there is a rink within at least four blocks of this playground. Motion <br />by Malvin, seconded by Hodges that the council concur with the Recreation Committee's <br />
