the Village Council <br />application for Mr. Toozo could be verified and investigated. Clerk <br />°mith raised the question of whether the Police Coumiaaion was also <br />recommending that Mr. John Och bo used after the 30 day Period as a <br />patrolman to fill in during sickness or other absonccs of (regular <br />patrolmen as mentioned -a few days previously by the` commission when <br />the council was approached for a decision regarding the aforemention <br />l e d recommendations. Mr. Eickstadt stated that the Commission would <br />e ave this'recommendaticn until further date and at this time recommend <br />hiring Mr. Och for only 30 days. Motion was then made by Crane, <br />seconded by Hodges to concur with the Police Commission and hi <br />John as Patrolman for 30 days, Ernie Grabowski bo appointed as <br />Chief of Police and Patrolman Rustad be appointed to Sergeant. <br />Clerk Smith stated that he thought that for the purposes of the record <br />each appointniont should be a separate motion and the attorney concurred <br />that each appointment should be separate. Thereupon Crane withdrew <br />his motion and Hodges withdrew his second to the motion, <br />Motion then made by Crane seconded by Hodges to hire Mr. John Och <br />on a temporary basis for thirty (30) days at the full pay Beale for <br />patrolmen of 3150.00 a month. Motion amended by Smith to waive the <br />Public Employees Retirement Fund payments by the employee which is <br />now mandatory until such time as John Och may be hired on a permanent <br />status. Mayor Crane also amended the motion tc include the date of <br />employment to begin September 26th and to terminate October 26, 1960. <br />Amended motions again seconded by Hodges. 5 ayes, motion and amended <br />motions carried. <br />Motion by Hodges seconded by Crane to accept the Police Commission's <br />recommendation and promote Ernest Grabowski to Chief of Police <br />effective October 1, 1960 at a salary of 3175.00 a month. 5 ayes, <br />motion carried. <br />Motion by Malvin, seconded by Hodges to promote Rustad to <br />Sergeant effective October 1, 1960 at the salary designated for that 5 ayes, motion carried. <br />Specifications for a new police car were read by the Village <br />Attorney. Motion by Crane seconded by Hodges to advertise for, bids <br />as per specifications in the legal newspaper the week of September 26, <br />1960 and bi s to be opened November 14, 1960 at the Red Oak School. <br />5 ayes, motion carried. Copies of specifications would be available <br />at the village office. <br />The subject of Stop signs and school stops was again brought to <br />the attention of the council and Glen Dawson of the Police Commission <br />stated that recommendations for placement and the sites for such signs <br />would be submitted to the mayor and discussed at a future meeting. <br />The chairman of the Recreation committoe reported to the council <br />that a meeting had been hold to determine what has to be done in the <br />immediate future and to discuss plans for future improvements to <br />skating rinks, warming houses and bleachers. The subject of who <br />has ownership of the one section of the playground at Hillview and <br />Greenwood was again discussed and the village attorney stated that <br />he had no report concerning- this as yet. <br />
