-3- by the fire chief be installed in all apartment buildings. All new construction has complied with this ordinance. When the ordinance was passed, apartment owners of existing buildings were given two years to comply with the new law. Letters requesting compliance were mailed by the fire chief two years ago. Presently,` letters have been sent out again by the fire chief notifying the owners that the installation must be de at this time. Several owners have balked, primarily due to increased costs and three owners met informally with the Village Council last Monday evening. The Clerk requested information from the Council as to whether the ordinance should be enforced or whether they felt that it should be repealed. The Mayor and Council expressed an opinion that the ordinance was a good law even though it may be tested in court and they gave no indication of wanting it repealed. It was the consensus of the Council to proceed with its enforcement. Councilman Hodges' Report Councilman Hodges again noted that there have been problems with rusty water in his area. The Clerk notified him that a meeting was held with the engineer, village superintendent and a health department employee in which the matter was discussed at length. The health department agrees that it is not a health hazard and that it seems the problem is in the distribution system and not in the pumping system. The health department is to conduct a thorough analysis of the system beginning the last week in July. Councilman Johnson's Report MSP (Johnson Baumgartner) To direct the Clerk to investigate various housing ordinances in an attempt to control the state of disrepair of apartment and single family homes for the purpose of attempting to improve the quality of housing and the neighborhood environment by adopting a housing code for the Village for Mounds View. Councilman Johnson noted that he had attended a North Suburban Sewer Advisory Board meeting on Thursday in which several alternatives to the Lino Lakes Centerville interceptor were discussed. Councilman Baumgartner's Report Councilman Baumgartner announced that there will be a Recreation Committee meeting on Thursday, July 26, 1973 at 8:30 P.M., discussion to center on hiring a full time park director and a Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday, July 25, 1973 at 7:30 P.M. Councilman Pickar's Report Councilman Pickar in reporting on Lakeside Park noted that the Commission was seeking comments on ways to improve the park. Councilman Pickar stated that he attended a meeting attended by Ramsey County officials and the Metropolitan Council on how to use surface waters in Ramsey County. 5 Ayes
