February 12, 1979 Page 8
Bill Doty, 3049 Bronson Drive suggested hiring a part time high school
girl on a work release program. Acting Administrator Anderson replied
that the City already has three such people working for them.
Councilmember Hodges stated that he would like to see an open house held
at some time in the future, which would allow the citizens an opportunity
to see the workings of City Hall. Councilmember Forslund stated she felt
it was a good idea.
EXPANSION OF PLANNING COMMISSION AND PARK RECREATION COMMISSION FROM
7 TO 9 MEMBERS
Acting Administrator Anderson reported that Staff had prepared an ordi-
nance due to action taken at the January 22 meeting to expand the Planning
Commission and Park and Recreation Commission from 7 to 9 members
Acting Administrator Anderson read the ordinance.
Barb Haake, 3024 County Road I stated that the Planning Commission had
been nine members for many years but had gone to seven due to problems
in getting a quorem together to operate the Planning Commission. She
explained that with seven members, the required quorem is four, whereas
with nine members, it is five, and they had experienced difficulty in
getting that many members together, especially during the summer. She
added that due to resignations, they never had to ask anyone to leave
the Commission. Mrs. Haake stated that she hoped if the Commission was
increased to nine members, that the new appointees would understand
their responsibilities to attend all the meetings.
Councilmember Rowley reported that there are people who are willing and
interested in serving on the Commissions so there should not be a problem
with getting together an quorem.
Councilmember Hodges stated that the decision to increase to nine members
was due to new people being interested in serving on the Commissions and
not wanting to drop off people who had served on them for some time.
Mayor McCarty added that there are people who would like to help on the
Commissions and they should take advantage of it.
MSP (Hodges Ziebarth) to adopt Ordinance #290, enlarging the Planning
Commission and Park and Recreation Commission from seven to nine members.
A rollcall vote was taken:
Councilmember
Councilmember
Councilmember
Councilmember
Mayor McCarty
Forslund nay
Rowley aye
Ziebarth aye
Hodges aye
aye
4 ayes
1 nay
