MOUNDS VIEW CITY COUNCIL Regular Meeting
Page Five July 28, 1980
He also noted the time involved in recruiting and
training new personnel. He stated he felt a better
pension plan would help alleviate some of the
current attrition. Even though a dollar figure could
not put the experience in its total perspective, it could
provide incentive for the fire fighters to remain on
the force.
Mayor McCarty noted the value of the current Fire
Department and agreed that a dollar value could not
be placed upon such service. However, he also stated
that current budgetary restrictions made it impossible
to increase City financial support for the pension plan.
McCarty made a motion, seconded by Ziebarth that the
Council concurs with the Fire Department's proposal
for the pension plan increase up to but not exceeding
the amount that can be supported by the present pension
plan itself thereby not requiring additional tax levies
for City contribution to this plan.
Aye Ziebarth, Forslund, McCarty
Nay Rowley (She feels the fire fighters deserve more money
for their pension plan even if it means some contribution
from the City).
THE MOTION WAS CARRIED. He
basically noted the proposed improvements listed for
the park system and the fact that the budget had been
reduced without sacrificing the major elements of the
scheme. They were suggesting including this referendum
at the September election to avoid competition with the
general election as well as being more cost effective.
The Park and Recreation Board, according to Mr. Anderson,
were going to make an active campaign to provide infor-
mation to all citizens to help them make an intelligent
decision on the referendum.
12.
