Mounds View City Council January 10, 1983 <br />Regular Meeting Page Four <br />trenching jobs were done; there was no major increase <br />in tree diseases other than dutch elm and oak wilt; <br />335 large trees and 900 seedlings were planted during <br />a community planting, with 59 being lost due to <br />vandalism and loss of root establishment; 18 tree <br />donations were received from residents and groups <br />in 1982; total tree removal cost for 1982 for the <br />City was $1,174.35. <br />Mayor McCarty reminded everyone of the joint meeting <br />between the Council and nark and Rec Commission on <br />January 27. <br />Councilmember Doty asked if the remaining funds from <br />Silver View Park could be used on the other parks. <br />Clerk /Administrator Pauley replied that because it <br />is federal money, the interest entered usually has <br />to be spent on the same project. <br />Officer Brick reported the Chief's monthly report <br />would be out within the next week. He reported an <br />officer has started breathalizer school, and more <br />will be sent in the Spring. He reported they have <br />had a lot of problems with squad cars lately. <br />Officer Brick reported they survived the storm <br />well, with help from the Maintenance Department, <br />and a resident, Mr. Erickson, who loaned his <br />4 wheel drive vehicle to the Department for their <br />use. <br />Mayor McCarty asked that a letter of gratitude <br />be sent to Mr. Erickson. <br />Director Johnson reported 214 building permits <br />were issued in 1982, with 10 for new homes, 7 of <br />which were in the fourth quarter, and one duplex, <br />and the Tyson warehouse, and the 40 unit elderly <br />housing project. He reported there were 64 heating <br />permits, 34 plumbing permits, 41 HRA inspections, <br />210 housing inspections, and 21 planning applica- <br />tions, with 12 in the fourth quarter. He reported <br />they exceeded their expected revenue, and will have <br />the final figures available soon, with $13,550 from <br />the Tyson IRB financing, and a $3,871 planning <br />assistance grant paid in 1982. <br />Director Johnson reported a time and cost record <br />keeping system has been set up for inspections. <br />He reported the street patching had been completed <br />from sewer breaks, and they have had a major snow <br />clean -up and digging out of hydrants and cul -de -sacs, <br />with 10 man days being spent in just digging out <br />hydrants, with 4 hydrants being lost due to snow <br />plow damage or storm damage. <br />
