Mounds View City Council July 23, 1984
Regular Meeting Page Eight
Mayor McCarty stated he was not in favor of opening
the access up, primarily because of the cost, which
would be assessed to the owner, and he has already
stated he is against it, and because the residents
knew what the situation was when they moved there,
and because the engineer has recommended against it.
Councilmember Hankner stated she could see both
sides. She recommended approaching the School
District to see what could be resolved. She also
pointed out that in 1981 a great number of budget
cuts took place, which is why the bus service may
have been eliminated. She stated she is opposed
to the entrance at this time because of the location
on the curve, the lack of lighting, and so forth.
Councilmember Linke stated he concurred with Mayor
McCarty, and that while he could sympathize with the
park residents, he was not in favor of opening up
the access.
Councilmember Blanchard stated she concurred with
Mayor McCarty also, and she feels that the emergency
gate the park presently has is sufficient.
Mayor McCarty summarized that at this time the Council
has decided against permanently opening the entrance,
but they will check on the situation with the children
and their route to school.
Director Thatcher gave his second quarter report for
the Public Works /Community Development departments,
bringing the Council up to date on the work they've
been doing.
Motion /Second: Hankner /Linke to adjourn the meeting 17.
