Mounds View City Council <br />Regular Meeting <br />c lerk /Administrator Pauley reviewed the letter re- <br />eived from the administrative council of Sunrise <br />United Methodist Church, speaking against the <br />ordinance. <br />Mayer'Linke reported he had spoken with the Police <br />Chief, who said he had no problem with the proposed <br />ordinance' Be reviewed the results of a survey he <br />had asked the Park Director to''do, stating wh ich <br />communities allow consumption of alcoholic beverages <br />in their parks. <br />Councilmember Blanchard stated she was against the <br />ordinance and reviewed the list of Cities that do <br />not allow drinking in their parks. <br />Duane McCarty questioned some of the terminology <br />in the proposed ordinance. He stated he feels the <br />parks are for the children and families and drinking <br />should be kept out. <br />Attorney Meyers clarified some of the terminology <br />in the ordinance. <br />Councilmember Hankner expressed some concerns with <br />the ordinance. She stated she did not disagree with <br />=ne intent but would recommend postponing action to <br />clean up the language and discuss further with <br />Attorney Meyers. <br />Alice Frits stated she felt the parks are for the <br />children and read excerpts from an article regarding <br />the proposed ordinance, as printed in the Minneapolis <br />Star and Tribune. <br />Motion /Second: Hankner /Quick to table this item. <br />3 ayes 2 nays <br />Councilmembers Blanchard and Haake voted against the <br />motion. <br />Clerk /Administrator Pauley reported he would place the <br />item on the June 3rd agenda. <br />Mr. McCarty asked that the Council consider notifying <br />the residents who live near the parks of further <br />discussions on the matter. <br />Motion /Second: Hankner /Blanchard to table this item. <br />ayes 0 nays <br />May 28, 1 9 8 5 <br />Five <br />14. 2nd Reading and <br />Adoption of <br />Ordn.
