Mounds View City Council <br />.Regular Meeting <br />Page Nine <br />February 8, 1993 <br />Mayor Linke stated, as a member of the CDBG Review Board, he would be <br />pushing this item. <br />Duane McCarty, 8060 Long Lake Road, asked what kind of services the <br />Northwest Youth and Family Services provides. <br />Orduno stated that, for example, there was an apartment fire in Mounds <br />View last year which displaced residents and severely burned a lady. <br />Several persons were traumatized by the fire and potential of another <br />fire. The Northwest Youth and Family Services provided counseling to <br />youth, children and adults. This service also works with domestic <br />abuse victims and child abuse victims and provides a variety of <br />services to the residents of Mounds View on a sliding fee scale per <br />residents ability to pay and this organization does not turn people <br />away. <br />Mayor Linke stated this organization provides some medical services for <br />youth of the community. This service also provides a job service which <br />helps people with chores in the community. <br />Duane McCarty, 8060 Long Lake Road, asked if when this service is <br />providing medical services, in all cases, does it contact the parents <br />• and let them know the child is receiving medical services. <br />Councilmember Wuori stated that this service follows all state <br />guidelines. <br />Duane McCarty, 8060 Long Lake Road asked whether or not when dealing <br />with medical needs of a minor if the Northwest Youth and Family <br />Services in all cases contacts and informs the parents of the type of <br />medical advice, services and procedures the individual may be <br />receiving. Are the parents notified in all cases? What do those <br />medical procedures and services include? <br />Mayor Linke stated that this is only one area of services provided and <br />no one on this Council can provide such technical information to you. <br />Mayor Linke stated that he has seen what these people can do and what <br />they have done and that is why he supports them. <br />Duane McCarty stated that his questions are not coming from a <br />standpoint of ignorance, but from one of great knowledge in each detail <br />and stated that he has some concerns about this Council in that it <br />could not answer basic questions about the organization, but lends its <br />support to the organization's activities. <br />VOTE: 5 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried <br />~E.
