It has characteristics of both the more mature suburban
areas and the "boom" growth areas. 7he community contains more
than the average number of seniors as well as a very high
percentage of pre-schoolers. With its large base of affordable
housing, it will continue to attract young familiesi however,
with its lack of "up-scale" housing it will also lose many of
these households as they seek more amenities. It would appear
that both ihe location and history of the community have
contributed to make it one of the more unique areas in the 7win
Cities Metropolitan Area.
The city has a blend af both Blue Collar and White Collar
households. The former group is the largest occupation set in
the city6 the latter group, when all the occupations included
therein are added together, constitutes a majority. Most married
couples work. As a result, the average income, while lower than
the normr is much higher than the demographic mix suggests.
Mounds View draws its residents rom a variety of sources.
Its latest influx is composed of many short-termers wha came to
the ity in search of a lo ation close to their jobs. But, there
are also large numbers of young families moving from other
suburbs who choose the community because of its housing and
5choal qua].itye The retention of many of these people within the
community seems to be a greater problem than attracting new-
comers4
Mounds View, in compari.san with many other communities,
15
