Decision
Resources Ltd.
SURVEY FINDINGS
City of Mounds View Residents
Methodoloctv °
This study contains the results of a telephone survey of 251
randomly selected residents of the City of Mounds View. Survey
responses were gathered by professional interviewers across the
community between August 13, 1992, and August 17, 1992. The
average interview ook fourteen minutes. Tn general, random
samples such as this yield results projectable to the entire
universe of residents of the City of Mounds View within + 6.3
percentage points in .95 out of 100 cases.
Residential Demo_crraphics:
Residents were asked a very short number of background
questions. The median residential langevity was 11.2 years; but,
sixteen percent had arrived in the city during the past two
years, while twenty-nine percent had lived there over twenty
years. The average age was 42.5 yea rs old; twenty-eight percent
were under 35 years old, while twenty-six percent were over 54
years old. Gender differences were also encountered: fifty-four
percent of the respondents were female, while forty-six percent
were male. Geographically, the four precincts ranged from twen-
ty-nine percent of the sample, residing in Precinct Three, to
twenty percent, res.iding in Precinct Two.
New Police Department.Buildinq Referendum:
Forty-three percent of the sample favored the construction
of a new Police Department Building and related City Hall im-
provements; thirty-two percent opposed the new construction.
Less than two year residents were more apt to be somewhat suppor-
tiveo A large swing group, twenty-five percent, were undecided.
At this time, a.majority, then, do not favor even in concept the
proposal.
Residents were read a series of facts about Police Depart-
ment and City Hall needs. Forty-one percent reported they would
be more likely to support the new construction in light of the
fact that the current police facilities do not offer privacy for
youth and people involved in sensitive crimes, such as rape,
domestic and child abuse. This was particularly impactful among
less than two year residents, 18-34 year olds, and Precinct 2
3128 Dean Court • Minneapolis, Minnesota 55416 •(612) 920-0337
