-2- <br />Thia group has chosen the Ardan site to design and propose a neighborhood <br />park which emphasizes the water resource and to encourage passive leisure <br />and an environmental atmosphere. Ardan Park development has been budgeted <br />for the 1976, 1977 years. Therefore commission interest, available <br />departmental funding, and immediate scheduled development are factore which <br />have encouraged this group's park proposal choice. <br />OB,7ECTIVES <br />1. To make use of this triangular si[e which con[ains two holding ponds. <br />2. To develop a neighborhood park. <br />3. To provide a park site which encourages passive activity and an environ- <br />mental atmosphere. <br />4. To design a[railway system which connects to the propased parkway <br />bicycle trail system. <br />5. To encourage family activity such aR skating, strolling, biking, cross <br />country skiing, and picnicing. � <br />6. To encourage lifetime activi[y. <br />7. To provide a park for passive interests which probably will encourage <br />persons in ii�e 4v -:C y2ar ag� gro��p�: <br />8. To provide means for wildlife and vegeta[ion which provates environmental <br />observations. <br />9. To encourage biking and walking especially within city limitatioas. <br />10. To dis�courage short-distance travelling within neighhorhood limi[s. <br />11. To present this proposal to the Mounds View Park S Recrea[ion Co�ission <br />October 28, 1976. <br />12. To xeport co�ission acceptance, questions, and suggestions. <br />13. To design opportunities for park use by the handicapped. <br />PROPOSAL <br />'Holding Ponds <br />The holding pond water reaource is the greatest asset of Ardan Park. Four <br />results of the ponds are proposed. 1. The two ponde are natural skating <br />ponda during wincer months. 2. The ponds attract wildlife such as ducks, <br />turtles, frogs, and other small animals. 3. The ponds, equipped with a <br />fountain and plantings will provide ecenic, beautiful highlight to the perk. <br />4. The ponds provide a different atmosj�here and emphesis than the other <br />Moimds View parks. <br />
