-2- <br />year park and recreat3on capital improvemen[s plan will <br />be accomodated by this proposal. <br />The project will enhance current city programs designed <br />to presetve residential neighborhoods and prevent deterior- <br />ation of existing housing stock. It will expedite the <br />development of modern recreational service available to <br />the entire coimnunity. <br />Project Area: Corporate limi[s of the City of Mounds View, <br />Minneso[a. <br />Expected Impact: M3nnesota Employment Service sta[istics <br />iadicate that the Ci[y's unemployment rate is S.1 percent <br />(June - August, 1976) which exceeds the nine county Twin <br />Cities metropolitan average of 5.9 percent and the suburban <br />Ramsey County average of 4.9 percent. Approximately 405 <br />Mounds View residents are unemployed. <br />The project will provide an estimated 73 i�ediate job <br />opportunities for construction workezs, who xepresent <br />approximately 9.4 percent of all unemployed in the area, <br />and continuing part4time employment opportunities for <br />residents in park maintenance and recreation programs. <br />Next Arch3tect lames 0'Brien, representing Williams-0'Brien <br />and Associatea - an Architectural Firm, presented the <br />proposed shelter buildings. Bryant pointed out that this <br />building was selected because of its functional design, <br />durability, and adaptability to surround neighborhoods. <br />He also pointed out that i[s very similar to the buildings <br />in New Hope which received national recognition for design <br />and functionalism. A discussion ensued relative to <br />deciding whether a four or six sideG building aould oe <br />proposed. <br />Motion by Co�issioner Burmeister and seconded by Co�issioner <br />Coplin to accept and propose for funding buildings of square <br />deaign and to initially accEp[ the presented conc�pt of <br />the Williams-0'Brien Architectural Firm. The motion passed <br />tmanimouEly. <br />Ardan Park Next on the agenda vas a presentation on the development <br />Presentation of Ardan Park by three students from the University of <br />Minnesota; Mary Kvalheim, Linda Booker, and Randee Wolfson. <br />Please refer to encloaed written document. <br />The Co�ission extended thanks and complimented the studente <br />for their profeasional presentation and thanked them for <br />their co�ents and suggeations for the develop�nt of this park. <br />Tax Forfeited Motion by Chairman Peterson and seconded by Co�i.saioner <br />Property Burmeiater reco�ending to the City Council that the list of <br />lands forfeited to the State of Minnesota dated 10-4-76 <br />be approved as non-conaervation land and be approved for sale. <br />The motion pasaed unanimously. <br />
