Anderson, Direc[or <br />DATE: December 6, 1977 <br />- :.E: Mon[hly Update - November - December <br />The purpose of this repor[ is to keep the Parks and Recrea[ion Commission <br />informed on current issues within [he Parks, Recreation and Forestry Depart- <br />ment that do not need official Commission action. The Director will present <br />a report similar to this each month if the Commissioners feel that St is <br />beneficial. <br />A resource file of rela�ed items will be placed in the City Nall and is <br />available for review upon request. <br />1. New M rec[or Hired - Effectfve November 7, 1977, Bruce K. Mderson was <br />appointed the Director of Parks, Recrea[ion and Fores[ry. A brief look <br />a[ my backgrouad includes: <br />a. Four years full-time experience as [he Assiatant Director of the <br />Maplewood Co�nunity Services Depar[ment. <br />b. One year full-time experience as Director of Parks and Recreation <br />in Rosemount, Minnesota. <br />c. One and a half years full-time experience with Recreational Services <br />Inc., as the Director of the Apar[men[ Recrea[ion Division. <br />In addition, a variety of part-ti� experience in a program leaderehip <br />capacity in New Brigh[on, Maplewood, Edina, Richfield and Minneapolis <br />Parks and Recreation Departments. <br />A co�lete personal resume is available for review in [he "resource file" <br />at the City Hall office. <br />2. Staff Trainin¢ Session - The staff management team participated in two - <br />tvo day training seasions a[ Seven Pines Lodge in Lewis, Wisconsin. The <br />dates of the training sessions were November 7 and 8 and November 19 and 20. <br />Tne training sessions were coordinated by Peter Gregg, a Professional Maaage- <br />ment Consultant. The first training period was spent evaluating the "team <br />managemenc" approach and how we each fit into the "managemen[ grid". After <br />heurs of deliberation the staff established "Community Isauea" and began to <br />brsinstorm poasible solutions. The second weekend had the City Council and <br />Staff revieaing each groupe iseue priority lie[ and the ca�llation of a <br />mester list. After prioritiea were eatabliahed a detailed problem solving <br />aeee'_on was begun with a^_tion plans written for many of the priorities. <br />� <br />� <br />N; <br />
