Once [he type and location of [he donated tree is determined, the <br />donor mails a check for the purchase price and the Recreation <br />Depar[ment then plan[s the tree. <br />d. The donor's name is then placed on a plaque located in Ci[y Hall <br />along with a letter sent to the donating party, co-signed by the <br />Mayor and Park Board Chairman acknowledging [heir generous gift. <br />Staff feels [his type of program is wor[hwhile on two accounts: <br />1. Increases City Wide tree plantings. <br />2. Improves public relations tmage. <br />Staff is presently developing a master plan[ing plan for each park site <br />and will be reco�nending the initia[ion of a sim3lar program once [hat <br />is completed. <br />6. Communiry Gardening - Staff has been ac[ivel.y researching the <br />developmen[ of additional pzograms in the area of co�nunity gardening. <br />The following programs will be initia[ed in the Spring of 1978: <br />a. 100 co�unity garden pluts pzepared at the Silver Jiew park site <br />for indiv3dual rental. <br />b. Six gardening classes have been set up with Ramsey County ex[ension <br />including Lawn Care, Flower Gardening, Pzuning, Selection of <br />Shrubbery� Backyard Fruits and Vegetable Gardening. <br />c. Expansion of exis[ing c3ty nur�ery. <br />d. Development of a suburban gardeners "Farmer Market" program. <br />e. City Wide planting including formal plantings, rose gardens and <br />neighborhood park plantezs. <br />
