Anderson, Direc[or <br />DATE: February 22, 1978 <br />RE: Monthly Update, February, 1978 <br />The purpose of this report is to keep the Mounds View Parks and Recrea[ion <br />Commission informed on current issues within [he Parks, Recreation and <br />Fores[ry Depar[ment that do not need official Commisaion ac[ion. <br />A resource file of related items will be placed in the City Hall office <br />and is available for review upon request. <br />1. Snow-Daze - The Snow-Daze activities on ,lartuary 28 were iairly <br />auccessful for a firs[ time operation. Highligh[ing the day activities <br />were over 200 youth who participa[ed in the akating races at 6 park <br />ei[es and a aponge hockey tournament with 10 [eams and all 6 parks <br />represented. <br />S[aff has already begun tentative plans for improving nex[ years <br />Snow-Daze events. <br />2. Lakeside Park - Councilmembers Rowley and Baumgartner aad myself <br />met with the Spring Lake Park Council on February 9[o discuas the <br />current and futurn status of the Lakeside Park Commission. Council- <br />member Rowley presented ehe City of Mounds View's position for <br />Cheir Councils review. Spring Lake Park did no[ have an alternative <br />proposal so discussion centered around Che Mounds View position. <br />Following a lengthy discussion i[ was decided that Council�mber <br />Rowley and myself should make a formal presen[ation Co rhe entire <br />Spring Lake Park City Council meeting in March. <br />3. Mn/DOT Bikeway Crant - We were informed Cha[ our bikeway grant <br />application will not be considered for funding at his point. Staff <br />is investigattng as to why [he proposal was not considered. <br />4. City Nall Remodeling - The construction began on February 15 and the <br />recreation officca are presen[ly roughed in. S[aff plans on conducting <br />a sliort [our on Thursday night. <br />5. Bid Openinge - S[aff will be opening up bida for the removal of <br />diseaxed treea on rriday, February 24. The second bid opening will <br />be on March 1 for a front mvunted flail mower. <br />6. Warming House houre extended - The vtnter warming house program was <br />ncl�eduled to drnw to a cloee on Friday, February 17. Staff prepared <br />a memn stating that beceuee ot t6e school closings, hecause of enesgy <br />conservatlon week, nddi[ional monies ehould be appropriated [o keep <br />the 7°mnjor" eitee open through February 26. <br />The L'auncil cuncurred nnd 5600.00 wae appropriated [o keep L�mbert, <br />Woodcreet and Illllview open through February 26. <br />
