Anderson, Direc[or DATE: February 22, 1978 RE: Monthly Update, February, 1978 The purpose of this report is to keep the Mounds View Parks and Recrea[ion Commission informed on current issues within [he Parks, Recreation and Fores[ry Depar[ment that do not need official Commisaion ac[ion. A resource file of related items will be placed in the City Hall office and is available for review upon request. 1. Snow-Daze - The Snow-Daze activities on ,lartuary 28 were iairly auccessful for a firs[ time operation. Highligh[ing the day activities were over 200 youth who participa[ed in the akating races at 6 park ei[es and a aponge hockey tournament with 10 [eams and all 6 parks represented. S[aff has already begun tentative plans for improving nex[ years Snow-Daze events. 2. Lakeside Park - Councilmembers Rowley and Baumgartner aad myself met with the Spring Lake Park Council on February 9[o discuas the current and futurn status of the Lakeside Park Commission. Council- member Rowley presented ehe City of Mounds View's position for Cheir Councils review. Spring Lake Park did no[ have an alternative proposal so discussion centered around Che Mounds View position. Following a lengthy discussion i[ was decided that Council�mber Rowley and myself should make a formal presen[ation Co rhe entire Spring Lake Park City Council meeting in March. 3. Mn/DOT Bikeway Crant - We were informed Cha[ our bikeway grant application will not be considered for funding at his point. Staff is investigattng as to why [he proposal was not considered. 4. City Nall Remodeling - The construction began on February 15 and the recreation officca are presen[ly roughed in. S[aff plans on conducting a sliort [our on Thursday night. 5. Bid Openinge - S[aff will be opening up bida for the removal of diseaxed treea on rriday, February 24. The second bid opening will be on March 1 for a front mvunted flail mower. 6. Warming House houre extended - The vtnter warming house program was ncl�eduled to drnw to a cloee on Friday, February 17. Staff prepared a memn stating that beceuee ot t6e school closings, hecause of enesgy conservatlon week, nddi[ional monies ehould be appropriated [o keep the 7°mnjor" eitee open through February 26. The L'auncil cuncurred nnd 5600.00 wae appropriated [o keep L�mbert, Woodcreet and Illllview open through February 26.
