RECREATION ANO FOFESTRV JulY 24. 1978 MEMO TO: Pazks and Recreation Commissioners FROM: Staff RE: Farner's Market Attached is a staff report fmm the City Forester outlining his zecommendations for guidelines for the Farmer's Market program. Sack has been out and abserved the local markets and found that there are very few rules or guidelines from which they operate. 'Hie basic pmcedure is as follows: 1. Register and assign stalls or parking spots on the day the sale is to be held. 2. No admission fee would be sequired. 3. Ssall truck farmers would be welcomed as they will complement the local aellers. 4. Thuredaya appear to be the beat available day. 5. We would distribute a letter to each of the people participating in the mazket. 6. No licensing would be reqvired. 7. 1fie houra would be from 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. 8. He sure that the parking lot is left in a neat and ozderly faehion. 9. The advertisinq for such a program would be vesy low key and qeared atrictly for the Fbunds View residents. We have also attached copies of two letters from area businessmen statinq theiz disappmval of providing such a service. The letters weze presented by Adminiatrator Achen to the City Council at the July 24 meeting and the Council did not rescind their concept approval. SWff is in the process of responding to the businessmen's concern so that ae might be able to reach a mutual point of understanding. If it is at all possible, we would enmucage you to atop by the Farmer's Market in Maplewood on Wedneaday afternoon which is open from 2:30 - 6:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Aldrich Ice Azena juet off the intersection of White Beer and F[ost Avenues.
