MEMO T0: Parks and Recreation Comniss�iyqM�rs <br />fROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Oirector ��� <br />DATE: January 24, 1979 <br />RE: hbnthly Update, January, 7979 <br />The purpose of this report is to keep the Parks and Recreation Commission <br />informed on current issues within the Parks, Recreation and Forestry <br />Department that do not need official Commission action. <br />Administratar Resigns - Friday, January 19, 1979 was the last day for �Aounds <br />View City Administrator Mark Achen. Mark had been with the City for 4-1/2 <br />years and recently accepted a new position as City Manager in Gladstone, <br />Missouri. I have been appointed to serve as the acting administrator for <br />the interim before a new administrator is selected. The deadiine for accepting <br />applications has been set for February 10 with a new administrator hopefully <br />appointed by May 1. <br />Winter Skating - Following a somewhat controversial beginning, the skating <br />rinks are now all in excellent condition. We have been flooding the rinks <br />daily when weather permits and we should have an excellent second half. <br />Council Orientation - The Fbunds Uiew City Cauncil has been meeting with each <br />of t e City Department Heads on Saturday mornings during the past month to <br />discuss the existing role of their department as well as the future. Our <br />departrtent will be visited at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3. <br />Skatinq Rink Lights - The new lighting system at Edgewood Jr. High School and <br />Groveland Park have been hooked up and are in good operating condition. We <br />have sent letters to both areas apologizing and explaining the delay in the <br />comptetion of the light syste�. <br />Teri Departs - Teri Trortbtey our part-time C.E.T.A. secretary will be leaving <br />us on Friday, January 26 as her work program will be drawing to a close. Teri <br />will be sorely missed as she has proved to be extremely helpful in a myriad of <br />ways. <br />We have re-submitted our application to C.E.T.A. for a replacement, but as of <br />Wednesday, we have not received approval. <br />Grant Application - Under the direction of Mary, we have submitted a sponsor <br />assistance grant to the Minnesota State Arts Board. The grant is for $325.00 <br />whSCh will be used by the Festivities Comnission if funded to provide enter- <br />ta9nment at the 5th Annual Festival in the Park Celebration. This year`s <br />celebration will be he7d on Sunday, July 15, 1979. <br />Park Commission to be Finalized - The City Council adopted an ordinance change <br />at t e r regu ar y sc e u e anuary 22 meeting to expand the Park Comnission <br />im�ership from 7 mertbers to 9. The 1979 Commission mertber appointments was <br />tabled for further discussion until the February 12, 1979 meeting. <br />
