Anders
DATE: September 25, 1
RE: Comprehensive Parks 6 Open Space Study
As staff outlined in a letter dated September 19, 1979, outlining
the 1980 budget reqvest, a total of $15,000 was requested to
develop a comprehensive parks and open space plan for the City's
park sites. The proposed comprehensive plan would include master
plans for each site, cost analysis as well as an action plan for
implementation of the proposed recommendations.
This issue was discussed in length at the September 24, 1979,
public budget hearing and a number of issues were raised by Staff,
Council, and City residents. Staff has invited Mr. Gary Tushi and
Mr. Barry Thalden, representatives from Saunders-Thalden and Associ-
ates, a local park planning firm, to give a brief presentation of
what a comprehensive plan consists of and the role of a private
consultant firm. As the Park Commission will be working extremely
close with the consulting firm that is selected to prepare the
comprehensive plan, it is imperative that the Commisaion feel com-
fortable with the firm and is aware of the expertise, background,
staff and philosophy of the firm that is selected.
After the City Council approves the hiring of the consultant firm
the Park Commission along with Staff would be involved in the inter-
view and final selection of a firm that they feel beat meets their
needs and philosophies. Should the study be approved by the Council
we would begin interviewing firms in October with the study beginning
no later that November 15, so it is imperative that the Commission
begin thinking of what types of information and format they would
like to see a park study take.
