GRTEWAY
EPPRTMENTOGOqqki,
C►f of Mods
 qqMSEYCOl1NTYMINNESGTA
aam icNwnv io
MOUNOS VEW, MINN.5511]
i84]055
RECPEATION (aND F[]PEtiTqV }
MEMO TO: Parks & Recsea9) ssioners
FROM: Bruce K. Ander
DATE: September 25, 1
RE: Monthly Update
The purpose of this report is to keep the Parks and Recreation
Commission informed on current issues within the Parks, Recrea-
tion and Forestry Department that do not need of£icial commission
action:
Fall Recreation Programs - We are presently emersed in
the fall program classes and it appears that registration
for programs will reach an all-time high. We offered 61
fall program sessions and at this point 52 of the 61
classes are being run or 858. The most popular program
appears to be gymnastics with 9 sessions being offered,
with over 125 youth participating. I have enclosed a
preliminary program registration list which shows total
participants in relationship to non-residents. Although,
non-residents are not a problem at this time, the Commission
may desire to have staff explore a non-residents fee for
future programs.
2. Edgewood Jr. High - The 8' bikeway-pedestrian trails have
been completed at Edgewood Jr. High at a cost of $8,252
based on $5.27 per foot for 1,566 feet. With the trail in,
Phase 2 is now completed at Edgewood and the tennis couxts,
which are Phase 3, will be constructed in the spring of
1960. The final phase is the construction of a park shelter
building which will be completed in 1981.
Registration System - The new Accu-ease registration system
has been in use for the past 2 months and it appears to be
working very well. We will be ordering a portable cabinet
to store the trays which will complete the registration
system. This proved to be a real time saver, as class
schedules and lists can just be xeroxed rather than being
individually typed.
Conferences - Program Supervisor Rvalheim and myself will
be attending the State Recreation Conference held in Duluth
oi October 3,4, and 5. Both Mary and myself will be presiding
over a concurrent session during the 3-day conference. In
ad3ition, I will be attending the Netional Recreation Congress
on October 28 through November 1 in New Orleana, Louisiana.
