Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
Minutes
• August 26, 1982
Page three
was especially pleased with the new arrangement that had been
developed with the concession wagon wherein the Commission re-
ceived a 10 percent revenue/rebate check on all gross profits.
SILVER VIEW PARK UPDATE: Staff reviewed the maintenance specifications that had been
enclosed with the commission packet and stated that bids had
been opened on Wednesday, August 25, 1982. Staff felt that
the commission should be actively involved in the process of
reviewing the contractors and recommended that the commission
interview each of the individual contractors, similar to their
involvement in the hiring of the city park planning consultant.
A motion was made by Commissioner Silvis and seconded by
Commissioner Bowman to interview the five low bidders with the
commission on Thursday, September 2, 1982. The motion passed
unanimously. 6 ayes
0 nayes
The commission further directed staff to make arrangements for
fifteen to twenty minute meetings with each of the firms and
that we would meet directly at the Silver View Park site.
• Staff reviewed the City Council action regarding the sodding of
the soccer field at Silver View Park and stated that the council
felt at this time they would like to take a "wait and see" attitude
as to how the site looked after the re-seeding project had been
completed. Councilmember Doty reiterated the council 's position
and stated that they would be willing to reconsider their position
during the spring of 1983.
RECREATION ACTIVITY
ACCOUNT: Staff briefly reviewed the status of the Recreation Activity
Account explaining to the Park Commission it 's current usage
as well as it 's current status. The current status of the
Recreation Activity Account is currently showing a $5,500
deficit due to the major expenditures of equipment in 1980 for
youth soccer and our summer baseball program. Staff further
stated that we are currently $17 ,000 in the black as of August
1 , 1982 and felt that we would be able to make up the current
deficit as well as show a sizable profit at the end of 1983.
BUDGET UPDATE: Staff briefly hit the highlights of the budget process indicating
that second cuts had been made and their were a number of areas
with which the park and recreation budgets had been reduced.
Staff further stated that he felt we would be able to continue
services at our current level with no anticipated growth scheduled
for 1983.
