Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting <br /> Minutes <br /> August 26, 1982 <br /> • Page two <br /> Following a great deal of discussion , at which time Commissioner <br /> Bowman indicated that the Lakeside Park Commission was also in- <br /> terested in the equipment, a motion was made by Chairperson Wayne <br /> Burmeister and seconded by Commissioner Wermager to accept the <br /> donation by School District 621 of the playground equipment at <br /> Red Oak Elementary School and that the equipment should remain <br /> at Red Oak until a decision could be reached by the commissioners <br /> at their September meeting. The motion passed unanimously. <br /> 7 ayes <br /> 0 nayes <br /> Staff then indicated that it may be a good idea for the commission- <br /> ers to personally view the equipment at Red Oak to determine the <br /> best use, prior to the September meeting. <br /> MMER PLAYGROUND REVIEW: Program Supervisor Saarion outlined the summer recreation program <br /> and indicated that the program was extremely successful as we <br /> had to turn away program registrants at a number of our summer <br /> playground sites because of the full attendance. She then "walked" <br /> through the fall recreation brochure with the commissioners and <br /> indicated the new programs that were being offered in the fall . <br /> 411 Specific programs she eluded to were new daytime swimming and gym <br /> programs at Edgewood Community Center as well as new athletic <br /> programs including five-man basketball and Saturday morning floor <br /> hockey. <br /> Park and Recreation Director Anderson reviewed the year-end puppet <br /> wagon report and stated that it was a successful first year of the <br /> joint powers agreement with the city of New Brighton in offering <br /> the puppet wagon program. He further stated that the puppet season <br /> had concluded with a melodrama written and directed by the summer <br /> puppet wagon staff and that a video tape presentation will be <br /> made at a future commission meeting. <br /> Park and Recreation Director Anderson commended Program Supervisor <br /> Saarion and Department Secretary Linke for the excellent job they <br /> are currently doing with the city newsletter and offering the <br /> high quality of recreation programming they currently coordinate <br /> and supervise. <br /> LAKESIDE PARK UPDATE: Staff briefly reviewed the status of Lakeside Park and indicated <br /> that Commissioner Bowman, who is currently the Chairperson of <br /> the Lakeside Park Commission would provide a more indepth report <br /> for the Commission. Commissioner Bowman commented on the resolution <br /> no. 1277 which changed the current structure of the commission <br /> to more accurately reflect what the Commission is responsible for. <br /> She indicated that the City of Spring Lake Park is not interested <br /> • at this time in this type of resolution and she further indicated <br /> that she would be preparing a second draft resolution for the <br /> Lakeside Park Commission and Park and Recreation Commission `to review <br /> during the coming months. She concluded her report by stating <br /> that in general the season had gone extremely well and that she <br />
