Voz
•
Business Beat
Economic Development Commission Update
The Mounds View Economic Development Commission (EDC) has selected new officers
for 2002. Dr. Greg Belting, owner of Silverview Chiropractic in Silver View Plaza, was
elected as the 2002 Chairperson. Toni Johnson, a Mounds View resident who works for
Xcel Energy in Minneapolis, was elected as Vice Chair. Both look forward to addressing
economic development issues in the community.
In addition, the Economic Development Authority (EDA) has appointed two new
members as business representatives to the EDC. David Fox is President of FedTech, a
manufacturing business that provides laser and waterjet cutting services. Jason
Helgemoe is Assistant Vice President of Commercial Banking for Western Bank in
Mounds View. Welcome aboard Dave and Jason! Their skills and experience will be
valuable to the Commission. Regular EDC meetings are held at 7:30 a.m. on the third
Friday of each month.
• County Highway 10 Corridor Plan
Last year the City of Mounds View selected URS/BRW as the consultant for the County
Highway 10 Reconstruction and Revitalization Study. The goal of the study is to develop
a coordinated vision and prepare schematic plans for the future development of
undeveloped and underdeveloped areas of Highway 10. The idea is to maximize the tax
base of the City and provide the framework for an aesthetically-pleasing physical
environment, while protecting and enhancing the natural environment and surrounding
land uses in the area. An open house regarding the plan is slated for April 2002.
Top Ten List for Mounds View Businesses
Do you enjoy a good Top Ten list (a la Letterman)? Aaron Backman, the new Economic
Development Coordinator for the City has been meeting with local businesses and has
compiled a new top ten list of the largest employers in Mounds View. They are:
Major Employer Employee Count
1. Sysco Minnesota 615
2. Liberty Enterprises 308
3. Multi-Tech Systems 264
4. Midwest Medical Services 192
