Proceeds were used to finance a portion of the costs of
acquisition of real property. Favorable weather allowed the $9.0+ million expansion of
the Mermaid to progress at a rapid rate during the winter. Today the building
construction is over 90% completed and portions of the new facility are already being
utilized.
The Mermaid complex now includes the American Grille (a full service restaurant &
• sports bar/lounge), The Mermaid Lanes (state-of-the-art bowling center), The Maid
(nightclub), the new Convention & Event Center, and a new Americlnn Hotel & Suites.
The Coral Bay ballroom accommodates up to 600 guests and is equipped with a full array
of business support amenities/media capabilities and a wide range of menu selections.
The Americlnn of Mounds View is scheduled to open in April 2002 and offers 70 guest
rooms, including a recreation area and pool with a waterslide. If you have not had a
chance to tour the Mermaid facilities, do so. It's impressive!
New Business Notes
Blooming Prairie Natural Foods coming to Mounds View
Blooming Prairie, one of the largest natural food distributors in the country, is relocating
from Minneapolis to Mounds View. This 26 year-old cooperative is a wholesale
distributor of natural and organic foods and products that serves natural food stores,
traditional grocery stores, buying clubs, and restaurants. Its annual sales are in excess of
$100 million. Running out of space at its current location, Blooming Prairie is looking
forward to more than doubling its space (102,000 sq. ft) at 5230 Quincy St. in the
Mounds View Business Park. The wholesaler has hired McGough Construction to
renovate the warehouse/office space for its needs. Blooming Prairie expects to begin
operations in the new location in July 2002.
