• Item No. 8A-8D
Meeting Date: August 15, 2008
Type of Business: EDC
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Economic Development Commission
From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist
Item Title/Subject: Summary of EDC Items 8A-8D
Item 8A
At the July 18, 2008 meeting, the EDC expressed interest in the composition of
other cities' EDAs. The attached e-mail contains this information that was
forwarded to me from the Lino Lakes' Economic Development Coordinator. An
attorney with the League of Minnesota Cities compiled the list.
Item 8B
Also at the July 18, 2008 meeting, the EDC expressed interest in learning more
about the University of Minnesota Extension Service's Business Retention and
Expansion (BR&E) Program. Attached for your review are a few pages from the
Extension Services' BR&E Program Webpage. Although staff would not
recommend such an extensive program, the program objectives may provide the
EDC with ideas to formulate an informal program in Mounds View. On a side
note, the 80% statistic that I mentioned at the last EDC meeting is highlighted in
the attachment.
Item 8C
In November 2007 and January through March 2008, the EDC reviewed and
provided input on the Economic Development component of the Comprehensive
Plan. Unforeseen delays and additions to city staff (Ken Roberts) have allowed
staff to expand and improve upon the Economic Development component.
Attached is the latest version. Please forward any suggested changes to me by
September 1, 2008. The city should have the entire Comprehensive Plan done
by the end of the year.
Item 8D
Community Development Director Ken Roberts will provide the EDC with a
verbal update on the proposed 96-Unit senior housing project, called "Select
Senior Living".
