• Item Number: 6A <br /> Meeting Date: August 15, 2008 <br /> Type of Business: EDC <br /> City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> To: Economic Development Commission <br /> From: Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist <br /> Item Title/Subject: Introduce Patrick Bettenburg of Risdall Marketing Group & <br /> Discuss Branding, Marketing and Public Communications <br /> Process <br /> Background <br /> In an effort to implement the City Council's marketing and public communications <br /> related action steps (adopted in April 2008), the EDA authorized the distribution of <br /> Branding Services and Public Communications/Marketing Plan Request for Proposals <br /> (RFP) on May 27, 2008. <br /> • Staff received ten proposals for these services on June 27, 2008. Of the ten proposals, <br /> staff agreed that Wolf Marketing & Media, Citylmage and Risdall Marketing Group <br /> submitted the top proposals. Staff interviewed the three consultants on July 15-17, <br /> 2008 and chose Risdall Marketing Group as the finalist. <br /> On July 28, 2008, the EDA authorized staff to negotiate the details of a contract with <br /> Risdall Marketing Group to complete branding services and a marketing/public <br /> communications plan for the City of Mounds View. <br /> Discussion <br /> It is now time for the city to begin the brand development process. City staff anticipates <br /> that the EDC and the EDA will play the following role in the first three phases of the <br /> process: <br /> • Discovery - Review research <br /> • Strategy - Assist to identify core values, brand objectives and brand promise <br /> • Identity - Assist to identify visual identity (logo, etc.) <br /> These first three phases should take about four months to complete. City staff and <br /> Risdall will complete the last three phases of the process (Visibility, Implementation and <br /> • Analysis) with periodic updates provided to the EDC and EDA. <br />
