Item 6A-Intro Patrick Bettenburg
August 15,2008 EDC Meeting
• Patrick Bettenburg from Risdall Marketing Group is leading this project (with help from
city staff). He will further explain the process (outlined in detail on the attached
proposal) and will be available to answer questions at the August 15, 2008 EDC
meeting. Furthermore, Mr. Bettenburg extends an invite to the EDC to tour Risdall's
offices located at 550 Main Street in New Brighton immediately following the August 15th
EDC meeting.
Request
Part of the "Discovery Phase" includes (but is not limited to) identifying how the
following audiences perceive Mounds View's current brand value:
• Mounds View residents & non-residents
• Mounds View businesses and their employees
• Redevelopment professionals (brokers, developers, etc.)
• Neighboring cities
Staff is requesting input from the EDC to help Risdall customize polls and surveys for
the different audiences. Does the EDC have certain questions (custom to Mounds
View) that poll or survey results could address? For example, the attached "Business
Development Efforts" table shows staff's contact with redevelopment professionals
since November 2007. Is the EDC interested in why "cold calls" are not working for
• Mounds View? Risdall could form a survey question such as "How often do you select
a site based on a cold call?"
The EDC's insights will assure the polls and/or surveys are the best possible for
Mounds View and not "boiler plate".
Next Steps
Staff anticipates that a joint EDC/EDA Work Session will be held on October 6, 2008 to
discuss the results of the "Discovery Phase". Meantime, staff will provide the EDC with
regular updates at EDC meetings.
Respectfully submitted,
Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist
Attachments:
• • Risdall Marketing Group Proposal (16 pages)
• Business Development Efforts, November 2007-Current (1 page)
