Inspector I! <br />(F} Certification as a Firefighter I, First Responder and member of the Spring Lake <br />• Park, Blaine, Mounds View Fire Department. <br />NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />(A) Thorough knowledge of uniform building codes, fire codes, plumbing codes, <br />mechanical codes, general construction codes, and a thorough knowledge of <br />carpentry; Considerable knowledge in electrical work, carpentry work, cement <br />work, or plumbing, and skill in applying knowledge of the Uniform Building <br />Codes, zoning and land use applications. Knowledge of methods, materials, <br />terminology and practices in genera( building construction. Knowledge of laws <br />governing zoning and general building construction. <br />(B) Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, architects, <br />engineers, owners, developers, the general public and city personnel. <br />(C) Ability to read and understand complicated plans and blueprints and to <br />communicate effectively orally and in writing <br />(D) Knowledge of the practices and principles of fire suppression and medical <br />emergency rescue. <br />(E} Knowledge of practices, principles and techniques of effective code <br />enforcement/fire prevention principles. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />A valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one by start of employment. One or <br />more Minnesota certifications including but not limited to Plans Examiner and <br />Combination Inspector. Minnesota Building Official Certification required. <br />The employee must be able to pass yearly hose, ladder and Self Contained Breathing <br />Apparatus proficiency tests. The employee must also be able to pass bi-annual <br />medical exams. <br />TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED <br />Personal computer, including word processing and permitting software; motor vehicle; <br />10-key calculator; portable radio; phone; ladder or scaffolding; tape measure. <br />PHYSICAL DEMANDS <br />The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by <br />an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Outdoor work is required in the <br />inspection of various land use developments and construction sites. Hand-eye <br />coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. <br />While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; <br />walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach <br />with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; <br />stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. <br />• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 ~9 pounds. <br />Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, <br />peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. <br />
