• POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />Position Title: Building Inspector <br />Department: Community Development <br />Accountable to: Building Official <br />Status: Non-Exempt -Temporary Position <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br />Perform building, plumbing, mechanical, housing, zoning and fire inspections on <br />residential, commercial and industrial properties to ensure compliance with existing city and <br />state codes and policies governing new construction and existing structures. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general guidance and direction of the Building Official /Fire Marshal. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />None. <br />• ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSiBILlTIES <br />• Conducts on-site inspections to ensure compliance with existing codes including <br />building, mechanical, plumbing, fire, zoning and housing. <br />• Ensures all related paperwork is completed and full documentation is available for <br />decisions related to the inspection process. <br />• Assists Building Official in all areas of building permit applications and reviews <br />submitted permits to ensure compliance with established state and local codes and <br />ordinances. <br />• Provides information to builders and others regarding buiiding regulations. <br />• Approves and issues permits which are in compliance and provides assistance in <br />identifying changes required in specifications to meet established codes. <br />• Calculates building permit fees and ensure that all fees are assessed accordingly. <br />• Investigates citizen complaints related to the building, housing, zoning and fire code <br />activities of the City with the goal of resolving issues in the best interest of all <br />concerned. <br />• Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours. <br />• Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, <br />supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers. <br />• <br />
