• <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />Position Title: Deputy Chief <br />Department: Police <br />Accountable To: Police Chief <br />Status: Exempt <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br />Supervise and direct all sworn department personnel below the level of Police Chief and provide <br />indirect or functional supervision over all other department personnel. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the supervision of the Police Chief. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervise Investigative Unit, Police Sergeants, Police Officer, Records/Evidence Tech and Public <br />Service Officer. <br />ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />• Coordinates the activities and operations of all personnel under his/her command. <br />• Translates police management directives, programs and policies to department sergeants for <br />. implementation by uniformed patrol officers and investigation personnel. <br />• Supervises police activities at the scene of major crimes, fires, crowd incidents and other <br />emergencies. <br />• Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of department procedures within the <br />Police Department as a part of the police administration and assist in the development of the <br />department's policy ma~lual. <br />• Performs street patrol when needed and assists other officers in responding to emergency <br />situations. <br />• Maintains and completes training records on all department personnel to ensure compliance <br />with existing state licensing requirements. <br />• Represents the department at public meetings or gatherings and presents a positive and <br />professional image. <br />• Disseminates information and activities between the patrol and investigation division to ensure <br />communication and cooperation between the two. <br />• Performs administrative activities such as preparing memoranda, releasing information to <br />public or media. <br />• Assists in preparation of departmental budget. <br />• Answers phone calls during office hours from citizens regarding departmental information, <br />reporting crimes, complaints on officers or department and general information. <br />• Supervises maintenance of police vehicles and equipment. <br />• Supervises Public Service Officer and program. <br />• <br />
