CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW • <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />Position Title: Police Sergeant <br />Department: Police <br />Accountable To: Police Chief/Deputy Chief <br />Status: Union -Non-Exempt <br />PRIMARY OBJECTICE OF POSITON: <br />To direct and supervise patrol activities as assigned in a manner which will ensure an effective and <br />coordinated program of law enforcement and public safety for the community. <br />SUPERVISON RECEIVED <br />Works under the supervision of Police Chief and Deputy Chief. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Exercises supervision of patrol officers. <br />ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />• Works closely with the Police Cluef and Deputy Police Chief to establish work schedules <br />and assignment so that each officer has a clear understanding of duties assigned and level of <br />performance expected. <br />• Recognize opportunities to provide Patrol officers assigned with suggestions which will <br />facilitate an effective program of law enforcement and public service. <br />• Performs street patrol on a regular basis and/or assists other squads in responding to critical <br />emergency situations are required. <br />• Evaluates overall results being achieved in the Department and recommends changes in <br />procedures or policies for approval and implementation by the Chief which will improve <br />results being achieved. <br />• Checks activity reports prepared by off cers assigned to ensure accuracy, completeness and <br />clarity in reporting, follows through to obtain additional or correct information as <br />circumstances dictate. <br />• Ensures an effective program or preventative maintenance on all squad cars and related <br />police equipment to ensure proper working condition at all times. <br />• Review established department policies and regulations with all assigned personnel to <br />ensure a complete understanding and compliance with such regulations. <br />• Conducts daily briefing with officers to discuss patrol assignments, traffic enforcement <br />assignments, and training topics as necessary. <br />• Confers with the Chief on a regular basis to determine changes in work assignments or <br />activities which must be past along to the night shift. <br />• Conducts interrogation of suspects and witnesses as part of overall patrol activities. <br />• Ensures all reports written by assigned personnel are prepared according to established <br />department regulations and follows through to correct discrepancies which may occur in the <br />reporting process. <br />• Answers citizen's complaints and inquiries related to non-criminal activities and follows • <br />through to resolve such matters to the satisfaction of all parties concerned. <br />
