Adoption of Ordinance 884, Amending Chapter 1008 about Signs. 6 <br /> 7 <br />Planning Associate Heller requested the Council adopt an Ordinance that would amend Chapter 8 <br />1008 regarding signs. She explained the Planning Commission was in favor of lowering the 9 <br />height of signs while also reducing the setbacks along Highway 10. 10 <br /> 11 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Hull/Mueller. To Waive the Second Reading and Adopt Ordinance 884, 12 <br />Amending Chapter 1008 about Signs and publish the Ordinance summary. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Mayor Flaherty thanked the Planning Commission for their work on this Ordinance. 15 <br /> 16 <br />ROLL CALL: Gunn/Hull/Meehlhause/Mueller/Flaherty. 17 <br /> 18 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 19 <br /> 20 <br />C. Resolution 8171, Authorizing the Abatement of Nuisance Code Violations at 21 <br />7895 Eastwood Road. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Code Enforcement and Housing Inspector Craig Swalchick explained the property at 7895 24 <br />Eastwood Road was in need of abatement due to the nuisance code violations on site. He 25 <br />indicated that Ronald Peterson, the property owner, was currently out of the country until 26 <br />December 16, 2013, and has requested the abatement be delayed. He noted he was prepared to 27 <br />discuss the proposed abatement with the Council. 28 <br /> 29 <br />Mayor Flaherty requested further information on the code enforcement history with Mr. Peterson. 30 <br />Inspector Swalchick commented Mr. Peterson was a long time resident of Mounds View and has 31 <br />had several nuisance code violations in the past, dating back to 1995. Mr. Peterson was given 32 <br />numerous verbal warnings and most recently a letter was sent in August of 2013. Mr. Peterson 33 <br />failed to respond to the notice, which then led to the issuance of an abatement order. 34 <br /> 35 <br />Mayor Flaherty reviewed the recommendation noting the abatement was proposed to take place 36 <br />on December 14, 2013. He questioned if the abatement could be held off until after December 37 <br />16, 2013. Inspector Swalchick stated he received information from Mr. Peterson after the staff 38 <br />report and proposed abatement date was presented to the Council. He explained he was willing 39 <br />to work with Mr. Peterson. He commented that the past history of this property owner may still 40 <br />require abatement. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Mayor Flaherty was in favor of holding this property owner accountable to the City’s Ordinances. 43 <br /> 44 <br />Council Member Mueller understood the property owner was not responding to warnings from 45
