Mounds View City Council December 9, 2013 Regular Meeting Page 5 Advertisement for Hiring a Maintenance Worker in the Public Works 1 Department. 2 3 Public Works Director DeBar stated last week the Council discussed restructuring of the Public 4 Works Department due to the retirement of Steve Dazenski. The options available to his 5 department were discussed in detail and Staff recommended the Council approve a position 6 description and authorize the advertisement for hiring a maintenance worker. He explained the 7 position would be posted internally for five days prior to looking for candidates externally. He 8 reported the position would be funded in the same manner as the Parks Supervisor position. 9 10 Council Member Mueller questioned if new candidates would have to be a licensed plumber. 11 Public Works Director DeBar stated this was not the case, however, it would benefit the City of 12 the candidate had plumbing and electrical experience. 13 14 Council Member Mueller expressed concern that the City was seeking a candidate that would 15 have too many specialties. Public Works Director DeBar commented that many of the Public 16 Works Department employees enjoy the diverse work offered by the department. 17 18 Mayor Flaherty asked how the position would be posted. Public Works Director DeBar stated 19 the position would be posted as a maintenance worker with an area of specialty being parks. 20 21 MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Mueller. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8189, 22 Approving a Position Description and Authorizing Advertisement for Hiring a Maintenance 23 Worker in the Public Works Department. 24 25 Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 26 27 (Council Member Hull was absent for the vote) 28 29 8.
