Mounds View City Council May 13, 2013 <br />Regular Meeting Page 6 <br /> <br />D. 7:15 p.m. Public Hearing, Resolution 8091, Consideration of a Conditional <br />Use Permit for Northwood Industries to have Outdoor Sales & Displays at <br />2701 County Road 10. <br /> <br />Planning Associate Heller stated that Northwood Industries was requesting approval of a <br />conditional use permit for outdoor sales and displays for the property located at 2701 County <br />Road 10. She explained that Northwood Industries was based in Hayward, Wisconsin and <br />manufactures and sells lawn furniture, gazebos, accessory buildings, and small cabins. <br /> <br />Planning Associate Heller commented the applicant is looking to open a store in the Twin Cities <br />metro area and was proposing to use an asphalt area on the southeast side of the parking lot for <br />outdoor sales to display gazebos and sheds. It was noted the property is zoned B-3, Highway <br />Business, and City Code allows for 30% of the building square footage to be used for outdoor <br />sales as a conditional use in the B-3 District. Staff further reviewed the site with the Council. <br />She explained the Planning Commission reviewed this item at their May 1st meeting and <br />recommended approval of the conditional use permit with six conditions. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty opened the public hearing at 7:45 p.m. <br /> <br />Clare Martin, Northwood Industries, indicated he looked forward to opening a storefront in the <br />Twin Cities metro areas this would greatly benefit his business and customers in the area. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller asked if there would be storage near the trash receptacle. He noted the <br />original intent was to place the storage near the trash receptacle, but has been moved to the <br />southeast side of the parking lot. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty questioned if any delivery trucks would be stored onsite. Mr. Martin commented <br />company vehicles would not be stored on the lot overnight, but would be onsite for deliveries. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty inquired how the façade of the building would be improved. Mr. Martin <br />indicated he planned to paint the outside of the building in the first year and after that time, <br />awnings may be added. <br /> <br />Hearing no further public input, Mayor Flaherty closed the public hearing at 7:50 p.m. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Meehlhause. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8091, <br />Consideration of a Conditional Use Permit for Northwood Industries to have Outdoor Sales & <br />Displays at 2701 County Road 10. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller was thrilled to see this new company moving to the City of Mounds <br />View and the benefits it would bring to the community. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause welcomed Northwood Industries to Mounds View. <br /> <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried.
