Mounds View City Council July 28, 2014 <br />Regular Meeting Page 10 <br /> <br /> <br />City Attorney Riggs reported that many of the new tobacco code amendments were being written <br />into law to address the growing concern of synthetics. He explained that provision J would <br />address these concerns. He suggested the Council review this further in a work session prior to <br />approving the Ordinance. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty agreed with this recommendation as he wanted to ensure that all businesses in <br />Mounds View were being treated equally with regards to signage and code enforcement. <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn discussed how the tobacco establishments differed throughout the City <br />and wanted to see the proposed Code amendment address each of these unique businesses. She <br />recommended that tobacco license holders be invited to the worksession meeting. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Flaherty/Meehlhause. To Postpone action on this item to the September <br />worksession meeting. <br /> <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br /> <br />F. Resolution 8282, Approving a Revised Job Description and Authorizing to <br />Advertise for the Police Support Specialist Position. <br /> <br />Police Chief Kinney requested the Council approve a revised job description for the Police <br />Support Specialist and authorize the advertisement for this position. He described the duties that <br />would be completed by this full-time employee. He noted the Police Civil Service Commission <br />met and recommended approval of the revised job description. It was his recommendation that <br />the new employee be hired prior to Linda Myer’s departure. <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn asked how this position would be advertised. Police Chief Kinney <br />commented the position would be posted on the City’s website and applications would be <br />available at City Hall. In addition, the job would be posted on the League of Minnesota Cities <br />website. <br /> <br />Mayo r Flaherty questioned if this was a union position. Police Chief Kinney clarified that this <br />was a non-union position. <br /> <br />MOTION/SECOND: Meehlhause/Hull. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8282, <br />Approving a Revised Job Description and Authorizing to Advertise for the Police Support <br />Specialist Position. <br /> <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br /> <br />8. CONSENT AGENDA <br />A. Resolution 8287, Appointing Gary Lee Rundle to the Parks, Recreation and <br />Forestry Commission. <br />
