Mounds View City Council October 13, 2014 <br />Regular Meeting Page 7 <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn commented the I-35W Coalition was pleased to announce it received an <br />additional $1.1 million for the freeway and it was now in the design phase. She noted that sound <br />walls were being considered. <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn discussed the recent candidate forum and stated she was pleased with the <br />answers provided by the Council. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause provided comment on the recent Mounds View Business Council <br />meeting stating he enjoyed hearing from Apple Tree Dental. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause reported the Festival in the Park Committee would be meeting <br />again on October 21st at City Hall. Those interested in getting involved in this wonderful <br />community event were invited to attend. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause explained Northeast Youth and Family Services would be holding <br />the Taste of Northeast on Wednesday, October 22nd from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Vadnais <br />Heights Commons. Discounted tickets were available in advance through Northeast Youth and <br />Family Services. He listed the local businesses and restaurants involved in this year’s event. <br /> <br />Council Member Meehlhause stated October was domestic violence prevention month. He <br />explained that local representatives would be hosting a forum at the Shoreview Community <br />Center where personal stories will be shared and representatives of the Ramsey County Sheriff’s <br />Department and Ramsey County Attorney John Choi would be present. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty was pleased by the discussion that was held at the recent candidate forums. He <br />encouraged the public to get involved in the community through volunteerism. <br /> <br /> B. Reports of Staff. <br /> <br />Finance Director Beer explained the existing cable franchise with Comcast would be extended <br />for two years due to the recent merger with Midwest Communications. This meant PEG fees <br />would remain as is until December of 2016. He reported the Council would be reviewing and <br />approving this matter on November 10th. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ericson stated the EDC would be meeting on Friday, October 17th at 7:30 <br />a.m. The business community was invited to attend and provide comment to the City. A <br />presentation would be made by representatives from Technical Life Care to the EDC. <br /> <br />City Administrator Ericson reported Todd Crew was the new Chamber of Commerce President. <br />Staff was looking forward to working with him in the future. <br /> <br />C. Reports of City Attorney. <br /> <br />City Attorney Riggs had nothing additional to report. <br />
