Resolution 8233, Approving the Purchase of a Water Control Valve for the
Booster Station.

Public Works Supervisor Peterson explained that one of the responsibilities of the Public Works
Department was to operate the water distribution system within the City. It was noted the water
control valve controls the flow of water from the water distribution system. He reported the
City’s water control valve was leaking and was originally installed in 1971. Staff received
several quotes for this piece of equipment with the low bid coming in at $10,976 from Kudrow
Equipment. The expense to install the valve was $6,550 from Municipal Builders. He noted
staff had budgeted $15,000 for the valve and $5,000 for the installation expense. Public Works
Supervisor Peterson recommended the Council approve the purchase and installation of the water
control valve for the booster station.

Mayor Flaherty questioned if the City could reduce the freight expense by picking up the valve in
Chaska. Public Works Supervisor Peterson explained he could investigate this further.

Council Member Mueller expressed concern with this request as Kudrow Equipment would have
the proper equipment to transfer the valve without incident. Public Works Supervisor Peterson
anticipated the valve would be placed on a pallet and that City staff would be able to transfer the
valve safely.

MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Hull. Resolution 8237, Approving the Purchase of a 2015 F550 Pickup Truck.

Public Works Supervisor Peterson stated that the Public Works Department completed necessary
maintenance throughout the City. He discussed these services in detail noting the Public Works
Department was currently using a 1999 dump box truck. It was recommended the Council
approve the purchase of a new 2015 F550 pickup truck. He reviewed the expense for the truck
noting $70,000 was budgeted by staff in 2014 for this purchase.

Mayor Flaherty understood the vehicle being replaced was 15 years old. He asked if the current
vehicle was in need of replacement due to the number of repairs or if the vehicle was simply on
