Mounds View City Council July 27, 2015 <br />Regular Meeting Page 7 <br /> <br />City Administrator Ericson asked if the Council was interested in considering the expansion of <br />the duties of the Business Development Coordinator. He reported that taking this position from <br />three-fourths time to full-time would cost the City an additional $23,000. He stated that because <br />TIF District No. 2 was retiring at the end of the year, the City would have a $37,000 shortfall. <br />He indicated the City could address this by increasing the general levy in order to cover the costs <br />of the EDA. Another option would be to consider a separate EDA levy. He requested direction <br />from the Council on how to proceed. <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn was in favor of supporting additional economic activities in the City. She <br />supported the Council further discussing a possible EDA levy. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller did not understand why TIF District No. 5 was not bringing in enough <br />money to support economic development activities in the City. City Administrator Ericson <br />reported the City was limited in the amount of increment that was received from TIF District No. <br />5, which was 5% and 95% went back to Medtronic. He anticipated that the TIF District would <br />conclude sooner rather than later. <br /> <br />Council Member Mueller supported the City taking some action in order to ensure future <br />economic growth was possible. <br /> <br />Council Member Hull and Council Member Meehlhause were interested in discussing an EDA <br />levy. <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty did not want to see the levy reduction fund depleted and for this matter, he <br />supported another tool that could assist the City in funding economic activities. He was in favor <br />of the Council further discussing an EDA levy. <br /> <br />Council Member Gunn encouraged all Mounds View residents to participate in National Night <br />Out on Tuesday, August 4 th . <br /> <br />C.
