*****EXISTING***** <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />Position Title: Public Works Maintenance <br />Department: Public Works - Water <br />Accountable To: Public Works Director <br />Status: Collective Bargaining Unit - Non Exempt <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br />Qualified person will provide maintenance service and repair to buildings and <br />equipment of the City's Water Department, and other related facilities as apparent or <br />directed. These tasks may include, but not be limited to ensuring the quality of the <br />City's potable water, conduct required testing, equipment operations, and a variety of <br />skilled and unskilled labor tasks within the Public Works Department. This position will <br />also assume the necessary/relevant job duties of the Utility Lead Worker in his or her <br />absence. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general guidance and direction of the Public Works Supervisor. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />May supervise seasonal workers as assigned. <br />ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />• Operates heavy equipment related to a variety of City programs such as <br />patching, snow plowing, excavating, and other tasks as delegated in a safe and <br />proficient manner. <br />• Operates light equipment including, but not limited to, trucks movers, tractors, <br />sprayers, paint stripper, chain saws, hand tools, and other related equipment in a <br />safe and proficient manner. <br />• Assesses situations or problems and determine workable solutions or methods <br />to resolve them with limited supervision. <br />• Makes recommendations to Public Works Supervisor on operating matters of the <br />department including personnel, equipment and work procedures which will <br />improve the functioning of the Public Works Department to provide better <br />maintenance and service. <br />• Follows departmental safety regulations and operating procedures that are in <br />compliance with applicable Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Laws and <br />regulations. Also recognizes potential hazards in the work environment and <br />notifies Pubic Works Supervisor for corrective action. <br />• Purchases operational supplies with responsibility and in accordance with City <br />Purchasing Policy. <br />• Maintains or repairs equipment as apparent or assigned, within knowledgeable <br />limits to ensure vehicles and equipment are in good repair and appearance. <br />• Maintains knowledge of safe handling and application of chemicals used in <br />
