Abatement of 5200 Jeffery Dr. Report <br />September 9, 2013 <br />Page 2 <br />Discussion: <br />On November 1, 2012, staff inspected the property located at 5200 Jeffery Drive and <br />observed junk, rotting trash, and other debris piled up in the back yard. Staff issued an <br />abatement order citing Section 607.03 Subdivision 3c of the City Code to the property owner <br />that the exterior be cleaned up and items properly disposed of by November 24, 2012. On <br />May 23, 2013, staff received a complaint for garbage/trash accumulation outside, junk, <br />debris, rusting metal outside and deterioration -general, for a shed that is falling apart. On <br />July 18, 2013, staff spoke with the home owner's son, Lonnie, who indicated he would work <br />all weekend cleaning up the property. Staff explained that if the violations were not corrected <br />within the time specified, the City would take necessary actions to abate (correct) these <br />conditions at the owner's expense. When staff arrived on July 22, 2013, no improvement <br />was observed and a re -inspection date was requested, scheduled for August 14, 2013. On <br />August 19, 2013, Staff observed there was very little improvement in the back yard. <br />Recommendations: <br />For the reasons noted above, Staff recommends City Council approval of Resolution 8149, a <br />resolution authorizing the abatement of noted code violations present on the exterior <br />property of 5200 Jeffery Drive, to be commenced no earlier than September 14, 2013. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />Thomas Stepaniak <br />Housing/Code Enforcement Inspector <br />Attachments: <br />
